Who is the “Mama” in Vote Mama?
Mamas are self-identified.

Mamas can be cis women, trans women, nonbinary and gender nonconforming people.
​
Mamas are primary caregivers for biological children, foster children, step children, and formally or informally adopted children under the age of 18, or children of any age with a disability.
Mamas are committed to progressive values and passing legislation that works for ALL families.

There’s another Democratic mom in my race. Can I still be endorsed?
Vote Mama’s policy is not to endorse in Democratic primaries in which there is more than one mom running at the time of an endorsement request. We will happily consider endorsing in the general election.
Do I have to commit to all of Vote Mama’s policy priorities?
Yes. Vote Mama is committed to uplifting ALL mamas and working families, and our policy platform reflects that.
Does it matter what level of office I am running for?
Vote Mama endorses from School Board to U.S. Senate
How early do you endorse candidates?
Vote Mama takes pride in endorsing and supporting mamas early - oftentimes months before establishment PACs throw their hats in the ring. As long as you are a declared candidate, we will consider endorsing.
If I was not endorsed, can I apply again?
Yes absolutely.
In addition to the endorsement, are there other resources that Vote Mama provides?
Mentorship: We connect our candidates with mothers who have run and won and run and lost. Because on your hardest day, you need to talk to someone who has been through it.
Fundraising Support: When able, we provide direct financial support to candidates. Unfortunately, fundraising is still the primary measure of candidate viability, and many working moms may have trouble accessing donor networks. We step in to disrupt the systems that hold women back.
Coach: We work with candidates one-on-one to create and implement fundraising strategies, policy platforms, and communication plans.
Will I receive direct financial support from Vote Mama if I am endorsed?
It depends what seat you are running for and where.
We support federal, state, and local candidates in all 50 states and U.S. territories, however, we are only able to financially support state and local candidates in the following states because of campaign finance laws: Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Washington, DC, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Nebraska, New York, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Endorsement Process
If you are a Mama running for office and you’d like to receive Vote Mama’s endorsement, fill out our Endorsement Application. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive the email, please try again or email us at info@votemama.org.
Applications are reviewed by the Vote Mama team, who will first confirm a candidate’s eligibility, and then assess each candidate’s support for family-friendly legislation in addition to meeting the needs of their community. Candidates who qualify for endorsement will advance to the interview phase with Vote Mama Founder and CEO, Political Director, and our State Chairs. Additional information about the interview process will be provided to all candidates who are found to be eligible for Vote Mama’s endorsement.
